Recently there has been a lot in the newspapers about US Residents from certain refugee groups going abroad to fight with Al-Queda and other terrorist groups. Obviously refugees from certain regions of the world are more apt to spawn terrorist who go abroad for training and possibly to fight. We should identify those groups and they must be closely monitored -- especially any travel abroad.

Why the contribution is important

We must keep this country safe. If we do not monitor potential troublesome residents we leave this country wide-open to attacks such as have occurred in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. We really do know which refugees spawm terrorist and DHS should monitor them closely - especially their foreign travel and foreign phone calls. We don't want to turn this country into the UK.

Groups are being monitored - this suggestion does not provide any concrete suggestions on how to monitor individuals.

Not only foreigners but native citizens have unfortunately gone over to the assist the terrorists - we have to be careful to protect the rights of citizens while protecting the country.

Need ideas of how to monitor without violation of rights.

I agree with you mostly but, I don't think using blanket phrases like "help the terrorists" actually helps either. There is no group "the terrorists". In fact, the term terrorist really could apply to any group fighting modern warfare against a more well armed adversary. It could even be applied to some of our own units.

People don't "help the terrorists" they get involved in causes, and so long as we belittle their beliefs and causes by lumping them all together based on one of their tactics, we do nothing but bolster their cause.

These people join their causes for one reason: They believe the cause is right. They fight with terrorism for the same reason that any of us would if the situation was reversed: They believe they are right, and see no other reasonable solution.

Or are you telling me that you are sucha coward that you would not, with foriegn boots marching down the streets of Washington DC, put on some black pajamas at night and take out whatever foriegn troops that you could? Would you not place a roadside bomb for a chinese vehicle, if they occupied your state? Would you not blow up a whole stadium of their people, if it really came down to it?

The hypocrisy of maligning people as terrorists when we would do the same if we saw our situation the way they see theirs does NOTHING to help us. If anything, it bolsters their causes, and inflates their numbers.

We need to monitor school systems that produce terrorists too. A case in point that comes to mind is the California public schools that produced the 'shoe bomber'.
If we promote moral relativism and a tolerance of all ideas then we will comtinue to have problems.
