In light of recent events I believe that additional regulation of chemicals and compounds is needed. It may be that chemicals deemed likely to be used in a terror attack, such as hydrogen peroxide, should be monitored and sold from 'behind the counter' in the same way a few cold and allergy medications are now sold. It may not be the complete answer, but it may serve as an effective deterrent in many cases or provide much needed evidence in others.

Why the contribution is important

How much more dangerous is the sale of these chemicals and compounds than other items that are currently monitored and restricted.

Another one that needs to be much more closely regulated is gasoline! Perhaps prohibiting its sale in bulk (from a gasoline pump) and restricting container size to 2 fluid ounces with a severe limit on the number that can be purchaced per month would be effective <wink wink>. We could use a driver's license linked check with the NCIC computer to restrict quantity to 2 or 3 2 oz containers per month per driver's license and none to dangerous individuals such as children or felons.
Frankly the problem is not in the chemical, but in the misuser. It is not possible to deny access to all potentially misusable chemicals without having 2 police officers to watch each person in the country on each shift and then as the Romans said 'Who guards the guards?'.
