Use fully armed National Guard troops to assist border patrol under the direction of State Governments (to comply with Posse Commitatus) & make rules of engagement effective to use any & all reasonable force to ensure strict compliance. Make military service compulsory for at least one year & restrict National Guard Service to American Soil.

Why the contribution is important

Effective border security is essential to national security & national sovereignty. Compulsory Service would instill a sense of national identity, allegiance & community, while providing essential job & life skills.

I support the use of the National Guard on the border, especially the southern border. It's the greatest source of drugs and human smuggling. Enforcing full control of this border should be a priority over that of the norther border and most ports. Especially, with the violence that is raging in Mexico.

However, I seriously doubt that we can limit the use of the National Guard, to American soil, without a HUGE increase in the standard military forces. Doing this today, would cripple our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I do support this concept. The National Guard should NOT fight in foreign wars, unless Congress actually declares war.

Effective border security is essential to national security & national sovereignty. It has been lacking for some time.

Our borders are not secure this is an emergency situation and needs to be dealt with as an emergency - use of National Guard until this can be obtained is necessary - no matter the lenght of time it requires.

The border is not an emergency situation and does not need further militarization. It has gone too far already.

Six million American citizens live along the southwest border, where they work, attend school, play in the park, congregate at church, and attempt to live normal lives. However, their daily commutes, travel, business, and social activities are constantly interrupted and/or scrutinized by federal law enforcement agents, at border crossings, in internal checkpoints, in home raids, searches, and all kinds of 'border security operations.'

Their constitutional rights as equal citizens are at stake, and deploying military guards on the border will only worsen this situation.

Meanwhile, the violence in Mexico has not crossed the border; San Diego and El Paso are two of the safest cities in the country. Federal law enforcement is deeply engaged in counter-smuggling efforts, and have successfully tracked down tons of drugs and guns and interrupted smuggling operations. The National Guard is not needed on our southwest border, and has no business in civil law enforcement.
