A portable emergency oxygen device that includes a protective hood that instantly inflates a collar that seals around the neck and then provides breathable oxygen. This is a small device (weighs 4 lbs.) that can be carried or fits in a drawer or brief case. It is push button instant on and delivers 6 LPM of 100% pure USP oxygen for 15 min. It is not compressed gas and is completely safe with a proven 25-year shelf life (no maintenance required). The hood protects against inhaling smoke, irritated eyes, allows cell phone usage and the unit has an LED  spotlight.  There is no comparable product on the market at present. It is safe, light weight and easy to use. It is a proven product. It has a  low cost and is simple to use.

Why the contribution is important

There are many plans and ideas of security for our national assests but I see nothing regarding personal protection other than a first aid kit with a paper dust mask, plastic and duct tape (www.ready.gov).  This has been the same kit sinced the 911 attacks.

This lack of personal protection for all of us increases our fear and anxiety when we stay or work in tall buildings and ride mass transit.  We feel almost helpless becasuse we know that escape is almost impossible when faced with smoke from fires, explosions and  CBRN terrorist attacks.

This fear is on our minds constantly as we work and commute and we think that our government is not protecting us because they dont provide us with anything to protect ourselves with.

This company is "shovel ready" but needs help in getting started. If you know of any organization that would like to see this product, please email me at nhursh@aol.com   and I can put you in touch with the company.  Believe me, it is a great product and our society needs this kind of protection.

The personal breathing hood sounds like a good device for personnel who work in/around toxic chemicals, but I am concerned about the use of O2 instead of breathing air. In a flammable atmosphere the inevitable outward leakage of 02 would contribute to the flammability of the surrounding area and make it more dangerous in the event of a fire.

This medical device is for EMERGENCY ESCAPE not for use in one's job. When there is a choice of staying put and potentially becoming a victim or using the advantage that this oxygen device gives you to escape, I think most people would prefer the latter. I cant imagine being trapped in a smoke filled hotel or train tunnel and not wanting to somehow get out alive.
